No. That’s not me in the picture, but yes we get confused for each other quite often (snickering). So I’m not sure if you remember but I posted my first blog in March 2010. Back then, there was one fan and one e-mail subscription (yours truly’s). I resolved never to buy a mailing list or even suggest the page and add fans when they hadn’t asked to be joined to anything.
No matter how small the number, I wanted to roll with people who wanted to be rolled with, you ge’me? Goldinwords was never going to spam or force itself on anyone. Today, there are 740+ voluntary facebook fans. We lost all our subscribers in the fatal December hack, but 340 of them are back, voluntarily requesting e-mail notifications. It’s been so much fun, very difficult at times, but worth every word in every post. You know me I don’t keep anything from you. I tell you as is, that’s why we get along so.
When Goldinwords started, I wasn’t sure what career I was going to pursue fully, now I am. After nearly two years at it, I am still fulfilled with a job that allows me to merge hobby, passion and career. I am happy to be in advertising and I’m certain (with God’s permission of course), that whatever I’ll become in future it’ll be very heavy on advertising/writing/marketing communications.
This certainty comes with new realities and new decisions, which do affect you in a way, hence this post. I thought it’ll be really cool to be able to write about all the fun things my job exposes me to. What if I started a blog??!! One that’ll be more of a contribution to Advertising in Ghana than a professional blog.
I wanted to and actually thought of Goldinwords as a professional blog for a long time, but it’s not. It’s a hobby/ministry blog which focuses on Relationships |Religion|Inspiration, but it’s not a professional blog. That’s why I was inconsistent for many weeks, because I was trying to figure out a way around it. I have.
With the support of a few amazing friends, I have started ADvertures which is an exclusive advertising blog and Ghana’s first (I dare say). The temptation was to shut Goldinwords down to focus on that, but I couldn’t; I really dig you guys that much! So if I couldn’t let you go, then I had to put in more of me, and between us two, I honestly think I’ve been rather lazy for too long! I must push myself harder, if it means digging deeper.
So Goldinwords will survive, with an even greater frequency I pray. But Goldinwords is not an only child anymore because she has ADvertures. I don’t think it’ll be easy, but it wouldn’t be worth the win if it was. Plus I know you’ll be around to support me, so it makes it so much easier.
So in real estate terms, we have another house, yaayy!! If Osu is too noisy, fast-paced and serious, sleep over at our Aburi town house, it’s all ours. Even though it’ll be strictly advertising, ADvertures will have the same personal appeal and conversational tone we have here. Who knows, just by visiting there often, you’ll become an AD guru in a short while when you never even took the course.
I’d like you to pray for me if you get the chance, for the grace to do both. For deeper insights and funnier better ways of connecting with you in ways that make your life richer. Please do, don’t think it’s nothing. Say a word for me any chance you get.
So like I said, it’s not a ‘Good bye’, it’s see you at more places.
