When you meet a man who moves you with his words, his voice, his charisma, his swag, his talent…you’re watching a synthesis of the people and things that have inspired him. No one becomes great with no reference whatsoever to any external help or inspiration, it just doesn’t work that way.
Brief digression: among my vast sources of inspiration is Alexander the great (some parts of his story). When the astronomers in his time told him of the worlds beyond earth and the other planets dancing in the galaxy, he broke down in tears.
Ooo Alex don’t be like that. How can this startling discovery make a conqueror like you cry?
(whimpering) because after all these years, I’m not done conquering one world and now see how many more there are!
Lol, isn’t that something? Well anyways, back on course; we are all the synthesis of the different things we listen to and admire. In addition to Alexander, I have a very tall list of things that inspire me; like the Bible, Ravi Zacharias, Franklin Jentenzen, Rev. Steve Mensah, Genevieve & Gideon Danso from EWC, Jesus Culture, Hillsong, TD Jakes, Jack Welch, Conan O’brien, creativity, action films,…the list is pretty long. I’m the thing that drips when all my inspirations are put into a blender. I mess up the mixture with my doubts, anxieties and weaknesses, but even through that dirt, glimmers of potential emerge.
If everyone who inspired me suddenly turned out to be the opposite of what I thought they were, I’d be crushed, but not shattered, because the adhesive of God’s constant love will always keep me together. But I’d still be crushed, that’s why I pray for the head that wears the oil. If Ravi Zacharias was caught up in a sex scandal, it will do me basaa, so I pray that God preserves his integrity, I pray that nothing will tear my favorite bands apart. No pride or ego should rise and dilute the music that does me skuluuululu. I pray for Jakes and all the people that speak the profound truths that remove the veil of ignorance from my eyes. They must continue to grow and be blessed so that I too may grow.
Sometimes I wonder what difference those few words I say for them will make, then I become conscious of my loss if someone decided not to pray for me because of all the people they imagine must be praying for me. I beg you, it is you p3. Lol, don’t stop praying for me and for anyone who inspires you. It is in your interest to pray for them because you need to stand on the stairs of their impact in your life to reach higher heights.
When you pray for others too, you become more tolerant and less judgemental. My pastor once said (I paraphrase) “The demons chasing you are the retarded kindergarten versions of the PhD ones chasing me. If my demons paid attention to you one day p3, you’ll wee wee in your pants everywhere.” Lol, he’s right you know.
When Jesus cast out the legion from the mad man into the herd of pigs, they just run off a cliff. It’s possible that before his deliverance, those pigs must have been saying to themselves:
What human is this who stinks worse than us? Why cant he control himself? Doesn’t he know any better? He likes attention o, such a hopeless thing. Even we wouldn’t mess up our lives like that if we were in his shoes. KPA! Just like that the legion was transferred into them and they couldn’t even live to be used for domedo.
Let’s pray away the flaws from the people we admire and not judge…you’d probably run off a cliff if you had to deal with what they deal with. Pray for the head that wears the oil. It’s so easy to get carried away and become full of ones self when a few people give you praises and go on about how amazing you are. It’s so easy to become proud, self-righteous, and even blasphemous.
When David spared Saul even though he could have killed him easily, he said may my life also be spared just like I’ve spared yours. Stand in the gap for those who bless you so that those you bless will do same for you. That’s the surest way to keep the oil flowing down your head and be relevant for a lifetime…it shouldn’t always be about you fam.
